Our people
Passionate about delivering excellence
Every company likes to think it’s different.
With GEN, it’s genuine. We’ve spent close to a decade building a business we’re proud of.
We’ve invested in a close team of people who share a heartfelt commitment to doing it better, doing it together and doing it right.
Meet our senior leadership team
Tim Bridgland
Managing Director
Tim places a high value on GEN’s diversity of projects, sectors and clients, all wrapped up in the GEN way. For him, this means genuine individuals committed to delivering quality work with integrity and – crucially – proving it right.
Tim is passionate about enabling a strong, confident team culture and strengthening trusted client relationships. With a hands-on commercial background in both pre-construction and operations, he brings a commitment to delivery, support and opportunity for his team and clients.
Come the weekend, Tim is a keen BBQ enthusiast and committed Spurs fan. Quality down time is enjoyed with his family, exploring new destinations.
Mark Pettit
Head of Preconstruction
Mark has been involved in some of the largest and most complex projects in the UK during his expansive career in the construction industry. He brings expert knowledge and a wealth of experience which has been pivotal to planned growth across multiple sectors. Mark joined GEN in 2019: he is now a co-owner of the business, leading the pre-construction activities with a proactive team capable of solving the most complex challenges for our clients.
Mark has a passion for early engagement and aligns his team to our clients’ needs by utilising inhouse design, our operations team and network of specialist consultants in Fire, Engineering and Acoustics to mitigate client risk and deliver an excellent pre construction service.
Mark’s main priority outside work is family time, savouring experiences together, creating memories whilst appreciating the great British outdoors.
Sam Killick
Commercial Director, Commercial
Sam Killick oversees the company’s commercial performance across its residential, housing and commercial sector projects. During the nine years that he’s been with GEN, Sam has ascended up the ranks into his current role. Sam brings an expert QS and contractual background as well as broad, multi-sector project experience.
Standout GEN projects that have benefited from Sam’s contractual expertise include Shepperton and Pinewood Studios soundstage builds, and Brighton 3Ts hospital development.
What Sam likes about working at GEN is the company’s integrity in genuinely caring about what we do, the people that work for us and the clients we work for.
Outside work, Sam enjoys making time for golf and spending time with his family.
Ian Russell
Operations Manager, Commercial
GEN’s Operations Manager Ian Russell has been a key force behind the company’s successful growth, over the last four years. Popularly known as “Rusty,” Ian’s measured and analytical approach ensures clients experience a seamless process, from preconstruction through to project execution.
Of all the projects Ian has been involved with, he’s especially proud of our work at Shepperton Film studios. Under his watch, our resourceful project team solved many complex and technically demanding aspects, leaving no stone unturned from estimating to delivery.
Ian thrives on GEN’s energy and fresh approach, describing the company as an exciting blend of seasoned experience and fresh enthusiasm. He’s a real outdoors person with a zest for travel and enjoys entertaining family and friends at home.
Sian Butler
Business Improvement & Compliance Manager
Described by her colleagues as having a passion for delivery, shared success and support, Sian thrives on enabling the GEN team to bring its values to life every day. She builds deep rapport and trust through genuine conversations and delivering on promises.
Sian loves breezy dog walks on the beach and is a huge foodie. Not many people know that Sian was a promising teen international footballer, until injury cut short a projected top flight sports career.
Mark Bean
Contracts Manager, Commercial
Mark Bean, known to all and by all as Beany, is our most experienced Contracts Manager. Mark’s seven years at GEN has seen him amass a wealth of project and sector expertise which clients and colleagues alike value and respect.
To Mark, GEN means making things happen and delivering successful outcomes on every project. His deep knowledge, instinctive team ethos and positive attitude ensures everyone is brought on the journey from day one. Beany’s ability to give GEN Project and Site managers the space to lead has empowered a confident group of individuals who believe in our values to the core.
He’s a committed Brighton & Hove fan and keen golfer, but family will always be at the heart of Mark’s world.
Joe Ballard
Contracts Manager, Commercial
Meet Joe ‘Duck’ Ballard: Joe joined us three years ago as Project Manager for Brighton 3T’s, a complex hospital extension build. Within seven months he was promoted to Contracts Manager and now oversees site management across many of GEN’s commercial projects to ensure our standards are always maintained.
Joe has a clear passion for combined Operational and Commercial delivery, with both clients and colleagues alike respecting his straight talking approach. A firm believer in leading by example, Joe enjoys working closely with his project management colleagues to help guide and support them.
Offsite, family time is important. Joe’s a dedicated junior football coach, fits in a round or two of golf when he can and tends a flourishing garden.
